How to Change Your Browser Language



Why change your browser settings?

Using the translate function on our website sends you to the Google translate engine passing it a link to a page on our website. The text is translated and displayed by Google. However, since you are no longer on our website, the translated page will not retain all the functionality found on our website. Links on the page will still work but submitting forms, sending emails, etc. will not work. If you wish to translate our site and retain the full functionality of our site please follow the instructions to change your browser language.



Google Chrome

  1. Click Chrome's menu iconChrome menu iconto display Chrome's menu options. This icon currently looks like three horizontal bars or three dots in a column, but if Chrome has an update pending it will look like a white upward-pointing arrow within a red circle. This icon is usually found near the upper-right corner of the browser window.
    • Note that if you are using a Macintosh computer you will have to use the method discussed below for changing the language in which Safari displays.
  2. Click the "Settings" entry in the menu. This will open Chrome's "Settings" page.
  3. At the bottom of the "Settings" page click the "Advanced" link.
  4. Scroll through the Advanced Settings to find the "Languages" section. Click the "⋁" symbol next to "Language" to expand that section.
  5. Click the link "Add languages."
  6. Find your preferred language from the list that appears and click the box before it to select that language.
  7. Click the "Add" button to add your selected language to Chrome and you will be returned to Chrome's Settings page.
  8. Click the three dots to the right of the language that you just added to Chrome.
  9. In the dialog that appears click the box labeled "Display Google Chrome in this language".
  10. A new button will appear labeled "Relaunch". Click this button to begin viewing web content in your chosen language.

Firefox

  1. Click Firefox's menu iconFirefox menu icon to display Firefox's menu. This icon currently looks like three horizontal bars, but if Firefox has an update pending it will have a white upward-pointing arrow within a green circle in the corner of the icon. This icon is usually found near the upper-right corner of the browser window.
  2. Click the "Options" menu item to display Firefox's Options page.
    • Note that if you are using a Macintosh computer you will have to select "Preferences" from the menu.
  3. Clink on the tab labeled "General" on the left side of the page.
  4. Find the "Language" section and click the button labeled "Choose..." in that section. This will display a pop-up window.
  5. Click "Select a language to add..." to display a list of available languages.
  6. Find your preferred language in the list by scrolling up or down and click on that language, then click the button labeled "Add" near the bottom right of the pop-up window.
  7. Click the button labeled "OK" at the bottom of the language settings window and restart Firefox for the new language setting to take effect.

Safari

Note: The instructions below change the language for you operating system. This will affect everything on your computer, not just the pages displayed in the Safari web browser. The Safari web browser cannot be set to use a language different from your operating system.

  1. Safari employs the default language that your computer's operating system is set to. To make this change on a Macintosh you open the Apple menu by clicking the Apple iconAppple menu icon in the menu bar.
  2. Click the "System Preferences..." entry in the Apple menu. This will open the "System Preferences" window.
  3. Click the icon labelled "Language & Region" in the "System Preferences" window.
  4. Click the button below the "Preferred languages:" list labelled with a "+" symbol to add your preferred language to the list.
  5. A list of available languages will appear. Find your preferred language in the list by scrolling up or down and select that language by clicking on it.
  6. You can now add that language to the "Preferred language:" list by clicking the "Add" button below the list.
  7. You must now move the newly added language to the top of the "Preferred languages:" list by clicking and dragging that entry in the list to the top.

Edge and Internet Explorer

Note: The instructions below change the language for you operating system. This will affect everything on your computer, not just the pages displayed in the Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer web browsers. The Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer web browsers cannot be set to use a language different from your operating system.

  1. Click the Windows logo Windows Start menu icon in the Windows Taskbar to open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Click the gear icon Windows Settings icon to launch Windows Settings.
  3. Click "Time & Language", then click the "Region & language" tab.
  4. Click "Add a language. A list of available languages will be displayed.
  5. Find your preferred language by scrolling up or down and click that language to return to the "Region & language" tab.
  6. Click on the newly added language in the list of languages on the "Region & language" tab to display actions available for that language and click the buttons labelled "Set as default".
  7. You may have to restart Windows for the change to take effect.
